Directional Control Valves: How Does Oil Contamination Lead to Hydraulic Failure?

The condition of the oil is a very crucial yet delicate subject that needs to be considered as far as the topic of hydraulic cylinder goes. Directional control valves are the vessel that plays a crucial role in actualizing the whole culmination of the effect. The oil is used as a fluid to make the cylinder function. However, it might seem very easy but it isn't actually. The condition of the oil is a detrimental issue that has to be taken seriously.

It has been found that most of its issues that climaxes into the system surge from the condition of the oil. If the quality of the fluid is promising then the result will be manageable too. However, if the oil is contaminated, then It can create a problem for the system and its parts such as Bladder Accumulators, pumps, pistons, etc. In this article, we will discuss the issues that can arise due to oil contamination.

What are the issues that can arise due to oil contamination?

There are many reasons why the parts such as a vane pump or axial piston pump of the hydraulic cylinder may get strained. However one of the common reasons why the pumps or any other part of the cylinder requires refurbishment is oil contamination. No matter which pumps it is installed, oil disintegration is a serious issue.

  • Corrosion between the vane pump is very common if the fluid is contaminated. If the oil is polluted by anything, then the whole pump needs to be disseminated and put back concurrently.

  • The chances of the piston-type hydraulic accumulator getting tainted and drawn towards a degradation process can be noticed too due to fluid contamination.

  • The tension created by the corrupted oil builds pressure on the Bladder Accumulators and the other portions of the cylinder. All the bearings have to be checked before replacement.

  • If the oil is corroded with water, then barrel corrosion can take place which could affect the piston-type hydraulic accumulator badly.

Conclusion:

The fluid is out to work through "Directional control valves". It is through this part that the whole task force is brought to completion. Each part of the hydraulic system is dependent. That is why, if the fluid is corrupted, then the whole parts like the axial piston pump or valve, shaft, etc will fall like a piece of domino. Yearly maintenance is required to keep the whole device operating.
